The Alphabet Braille Board

The Alphabet Braille Board was created in response to a lack of inclusive accessibility tools in kindergarten classrooms. The goal of this playful puzzle activity is to introduce Braille early on in a child’s life, in the hopes of familiarising and demystifying the language system while integrating Braille letters into traditional Kindergarten alphabet practice.

A wooden pegboard is mounted on the wall. Each peg represents a raised dot in a Braille letter. Colourful, wooden Braille letter tiles are precisely carved out to hang on the board. The wooden pegs stick out just enough when the tile is placed on top to be reminiscent of an oversized Braille cell, reinforcing the Braille letter formation. This activity offers children the chance to practice both the Danish and Braille alphabet while placing the letters in the correct position.

This version was specifically made to fit within a Danish kindergarten classroom’s cultural context. However, this design can be tailored for many language systems.
